The door is ahead
I need to go through
I pace before it
I walk and talk to myself
I run toward then away from it.
Then wait…
I sit on the floor before the door
Willing it to open on its own
Then I decide to make a window beside the door
I contemplate the dimensions of the window
And while I get ready to cut through the wall
The door cracks open
So stunned I stop in awe
Mouth open staring into the light revealed.
With legs shaking
Tools still in hand
I walk to the door
To widen the crack
And flood my face
With the warm promise of tomorrow.
